Playing around with the "build your own" system shows that the least expensive Grand Cherokee available is the rear-wheel-drive Laredo which starts at $30,995 including destination and delivery. 

Regardless of the trim level or number of driven wheels, the Grand Cherokees come standard with the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, although the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is available as an option on Limited and Overland trims. Injudicious use of the options list can push the price tag of a Grand Cherokee up to $50,000 and beyond.

Paradoxically, the only years after the great divorce, the final dividend for the Jeep brand of DaimlerChrysler marriage. An all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee began in 2011 and now shares its architecture with Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV. Better late than never, we think.

A new 3.6-liter replaces the previous 3.7-liter V-6 base. It produces 280 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque (a significant increase in the tuft old 210 and 235) and returns fuel economy 11 percent better, thanks in part to variable valve timing. The optional 360-hp, 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 returns to the playground, and both engines are mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and two rear-wheel drive.

The optional Quadra-Lift air suspension (inherited from Mercedes) may increase the height of the Grand Cherokee, more attention, departure and break over angles even more off-road credibility.
