2006 Ford Crown Victoria LX Sport

Crown Victoria is a sedan for traditional large-car buyers who seek the features offered in the American cars they grew up with – roominess, comfort, smooth ride, V-8 power and rear-wheel drive. Size, safety and dependability remain hallmarks, and Crown Victoria continues to earn the government’s highest five-star crash rating for the driver and front passenger.

New for 2006
  • New exterior color: Tungsten Clearcoat Metallic
  • New 16-inch nine-spoke wheel on LX models
  • In-glass antenna replaces exterior mast
  • Trip computer st and ard on LX and LX sport
  • Optional Perimeter Alarm
  • On Commercial versions, 17-inch wheels and an engine hour meter are now standard equipment
Crown Victoria enters 2006 with minor interior, exterior and functional changes. In addition to the new Tungsten Clearcoat Metallic paint offering, a 16-inch nine-spoke wheel is st and ard for LX. A trip computer is now standard with LX and LX sport, while a Perimeter Alarm is now available on all models. This year, a radio antenna built into the rear window replaces the traditional quarter-panel mast.

Crown Victoria is available to retail customers in Standard, LX and LX Sport trim levels. In six-passenger Standard and LX trim, the Crown Victoria offers 106.4 cubic feet of passenger volume. The huge trunk has 20.6 cubic feet of space.

Heavy-duty versions of the Crown Victoria include standard-wheelbase models and versions with a 6-inch wheelbase stretch. Both can be ordered from the factory with various packages for police and taxi use.

Crown Victoria is built in St. Thomas, Ontario.

Design and Equipment

The Crown Victoria’s clean styling features wide door openings, large glass areas for good visibility, wraparound aerodynamic headlamps and standard foldaway remote-control power outside mirrors. The color-keyed body-side moldings help protect against parking-lot dings.
The LX Sport model has a monochromatic exterior. Body-color grille, bumpers, decklid applique and taillamp trim are standard with the Dark Toreador Red, Silver Birch, Tungsten and Black exterior colors.

The LX Sport interior includes front bucket seats with leather trim and a leather-wrapped h and le on the gear selector located in the center console. The console includes large and small storage bins, a padded armrest and concealed power point. The console and rear armrest both offer dual cup holders.

Powertrain

Crown Victoria is powered by a 4.6-liter, single-overhead-cam V-8 engine that develops 224 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 272 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm.

The optional H and ling and Performance package, standard on the LX Sport, has a dual exhaust system that increases the engine’s performance to 239 horsepower at 4,900 rpm and 287 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm. It also includes an uprated torque converter, monotube shocks, a rear stabilizer bar and rear air suspension.

Crown Victoria uses an electronically controlled four-speed automatic overdrive transmission.

Safety and Security

Since 1996, Crown Victoria has earned the U.S. government’s highest crash test rating – five-star – for driver and passenger frontal crash. Major contributors to Crown Victoria ’s safety performance are a robust frame design, a large crumple zone and Ford Motor Company’s Personal Safety System.

Seat-mounted side air bags for the front outboard seats are an available option.

Other safety features include BeltMinder, child safety locks on the rear doors, LATCH, SmartLock and a glow-in-the-dark internal trunk release h and le.

Laminated front side glass is available to provide extra security against “smash- and -grab” break-ins and thefts. It also reduces road and wind noise, improves protection from flying glass in a collision and filters out most of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays, thus reducing heat buildup and interior fading.

2006 Ford GTX1 Roadster

The GTX1 Roadster can become reality for the enthusiasts who desire world-class performance, a flexible roof system for open-air driving, and one-of-a-kind exterior styling

With the 1966 Sebring-winning Ford GTX1 roadster as inspiration, Ford SVT engineering supervisor Kip Ewing unveiled his take on that legendary racer during the opening day of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show. Ewing conceived the idea for a roadster while working on the Ford GT launch, and after completing initial design sketches and engineering studies on his own time, he won the privilege of utilizing the Ford’s SEMA Technology Initiative to bring the Ford GTX1 roadster to life.

“The Ford GT has been an amazing automotive icon that I’ve had the pleasure to work on,” said Ewing. “The X1 project is a great way to answer the question, ‘What if?’ and utilize the power of the SEMA’s members in the aftermarket to get it done.

Ford’s SEMA Technology Initiative began in 1999 with the sharing of technical drawings and electrical schematics of the then-new Mustang. The program has expanded over the years to include the majority of Ford and Lincoln Mercury vehicles and now provides three-dimensional CAD data to aftermarket companies looking to develop parts and accessories. As part of Ford’s initiatives to promote its vehicles to SEMA members in the aftermarket, Ford supports a selection of project vehicles to be built every year for the SEMA Show, and the Ford GTX1 was one of them.

The builder chosen for the project is Mark Gerisch of Genaddi Design Group (
www.vgdauto.com), an experienced designer and metal shaper that has a history of cutting the roofs off expensive and exotic cars. Ewing worked with Ford’s SEMA liaison team and Ford Corporate Design to bring the OEM perspective to the project, but working with Gerisch’s team in the aftermarket was critical for success

The Ford GTX1 project is a great example of manufacturers working together with the aftermarket to stretch the boundaries and investigate potential design and product innovation,” says Hau Thai-Tang, director, Ford SVT and Advanced Product Creation, and one of Ewing’s management supporters on the X1. “SEMA showcases trends in styling, accessories, and performance, and whether it’s a new Fusion, Mustang, F-150 or Ford GT, there is something new to be learned by going through this process."

The X1 roadster features an innovative roof system of four individual hard panels. The panels can be configured as a coupe, t-top, or full convertible. Even with all the panels installed, the outer panels can be locked into a vent position. Plus, the panels are painted in the same Valencia Yellow featuring Tungsten Silver stripes; therefore, as a coupe, it doesn’t lose any of its design appeal. And, X1 drivers won’t be caught in the rain because all four panels can be stored inside the vehicle for easy access.

The Ford GTX1’s rear clamshell covering the engine has been redesigned to feature two buttresses that flow rearward from the seatbacks. Without the need for a backlight due to its open-top configuration, the view into the engine bay could have gone away, but Ewing knew the importance of showcasing the 550-horsepower 5.4L supercharged V-8.

The answer to the inevitable question of “Can I buy one?” is yes. All it will take is a trip to your local Ford dealer to purchase a Ford GT, and then a call to Genaddi Design Group, or visit
www.gtx1.com.

Sony is using the Ford GTX1 roadster to showcase its latest product from its Xplôd audio system product line. Music in the GTX1 comes courtesy of the Sony Xplôd MEX-1GP “Giga Panel” AM/FM CD receiver. This new device allows users to simply transfer their favorite MP3 and WMA files from virtually any computer to the receiver’s detachable faceplate via USB cable. Dubbed “Drag and Drive”, its built-in 1GB of flash memory holds up to 500 songs for hours of uninterrupted playback.

2006 Ford Mustang GT

Since its dramatic 1964 introduction, Ford Mustang has been the icon of American performance with its bold style, brawny engine and rear-wheel-drive excitement, earning its place as the top-selling sports car for 19 years straight. For 2006, Ford is building on the clean-sheet 2005 design by offering a V-6 "Pony Package," 18-inch wheels on GT models, a pair of new colors and , later in the model year, a darker aluminum interior upgrade option.

Since its all-new 2005 redesign, Mustang has won dozens of accolades including "Most Significant Vehicle" from Edmunds.com, "Official Car of Summer" from Outside magazine as well as listing in AutoWeek's top 10 cars and Ward's Auto World's 10 best engines.

Mustang is one of the greatest automotive sales success stories of all time. Nearly one out of every two sports cars sold in America this year has been a Mustang. The car garnered more than two times as many sales as its closest competitor in the small specialty segment, which features sports coupes such as the Pontiac GTO, Nissan 350Z, Chrysler Sebring and Hyundai Tiburon. It's also America 's best-selling convertible.

For 2006, Ford Mustang will offer customers more customization potential with the all-new "Pony Package," providing Mustang V-6 customers a GT-inspired suspension with larger wheels and tires, custom grille with fog lamps and other enhancements.

Mustang GT customers can now also choose between four different wheel and tire packages, including two new 18-inch wheels and tires complemented by unique suspension tuning. In addition, two new Mustang colors – Vista Blue Clearcoat Metallic and Tungsten Grey Clearcoat Metallic – join the color palette for 2006.

Mustang comes in Standard, Deluxe and Premium packages (Deluxe and Premium only for GT models) in a choice of coupe or convertible with a V-6 or V-8 engine mated to a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission. It is built in Flat Rock, Mich.

Design and Equipment

Mustang is pure American muscle. The signature long hood and short rear deck capitalize on 40 years of history, as do classic design cues that have defined Mustangs since the 1960s: C-scoops in the sides, three-element taillamps and a galloping horse badge in the center of the grille. The Mustang's menacing shark-like nose imparts an attitude not seen since the 1967 model, while jeweled, round headlamps in trapezoidal housings are part of its striking new modern architecture. The car's aggressive rake gives the design visual motion while the short overhangs anchor it visually and physically to the road.

The new-for-2006 V-6 "Pony Package" includes a customized grille with GT-style round fog lamps and a chrome bezel or "corral" around the traditional Mustang prancing horse. Backing up this visual upgrade is a GT-inspired suspension featuring a larger front stabilizer bar, the addition of a rear stabilizer bar and 235/55 ZR17 tires on painted cast-aluminum wheels. With bright machined rims and unique tri-bar Pony center caps, these are the largest wheels and tires ever fitted to a V-6 Mustang.

Further touches include Pony front fender badges, lower door tape stripe, carpeted front floor mats with special brushed chrome "Mustang" logos and a rear spoiler. Four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS) and traction control are also part of the package.

In the 2006 model year, Mustang GT also will have two new 18-inch wheel and tire combinations – the largest tires ever fitted to a production V-8 Mustang since the 2000 SVT Cobra R model – and unique suspension tuning calibrated to the larger treads. Mustang GT customers will be able to choose from four wheel- and -tire combinations.

Inside, the industry-first, color-configurable instrument panel offers the ultimate in personalization. Mustang owners can mix and match lighting at the touch of a button to create more than 125 different color backgrounds to suit their personality, mood, outfit or whim.

Modern touches mix with Mustang history and heritage. Chrome-ringed air vents are aligned vertically across the dash, precisely in line with the gauges, and the steering wheel has three spokes with a center hub marked by the horse and tricolor bars logo, echoing the design of the 1967 Mustang.

Numerous standard features include one-touch up/down power windows, power mirrors, keyless entry and power locks, a heated rear window, interval wipers, air conditioning, speed control and CD player.

Powertrain and Chassis

Muscular engines infuse Mustang with tire-smoking performance. The 4.6-liter aluminum V-8 has three-valve heads and cranks out 300 horsepower. That's more than 50 percent more power than the small-block 289-cubic-inch V-8 found in the classic 1964 model.

The standard engine, a 60-degree 4.0-liter SOHC V-6, produces 210 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque.

Five-speed manual transmissions are standard. The V-8 powered GT is equipped with a rugged Tremec 3650 gearbox, while V-6 uses the proven Tremec T-5. Since 2005, Mustang has been available with a five-speed automatic which provides a unique combination of off-the-line jump and good highway fuel economy.

At the front suspension, MacPherson struts with reverse "L" lower control arms deliver both comfort and control. The three-link rear suspension has a lightweight, tubular Panhard rod that provides precise control of the rear axle. This technology stabilizes the rear axle as the wheels move, particularly during hard cornering.

The standard four-wheel disc brakes have the biggest rotors and stiffest calipers ever fitted to a mainstream Mustang. Twin-piston aluminum calipers clamp down on 12.4-inch ventilated front brake discs on GT models.

In the rear, the brake rotors are 11.8 inches in diameter – more than 12 percent larger than on the 2004 model.

A four-channel anti-lock braking system with traction control is available for a greater degree of brake control. It uses electronic sensors to constantly monitor road conditions and feed the information to a dedicated control computer capable of determining, within milliseconds, whether the vehicle is on dry pavement or negotiating a slippery surface. When traction control isn't desired, drivers can deactivate the system with a simple button on the instrument panel.

Safety and Security

With power comes responsibility. The 2006 Mustang helps occupants stay safe.

Ford's Personal Safety System, a comprehensive safety technology package, is standard. The system provides increased protection in frontal crashes by analyzing crash factors and determining the proper response within milliseconds. It uses dual-stage driver and front-passenger air bags – capable of deploying at full or partial power – safety belt pretensioners and energy management retractors.

Standard occupant classification sensing builds on the strength of the Personal Safety System to tailor deployment of the front-passenger air bag. If the passenger seat sensor detects no weight – or very little weight, as for a briefcase – the passenger air bag is automatically switched off. If more weight is on the seat, as for a small child, the air bag remains deactivated and an instrument panel light alerts the driver. If a heavier adult is in the passenger seat, the air bag automatically switches on.

An optional active anti-theft package offers customers a new level of security. It includes a sensing module to guard against tow-away thefts, an interior motion sensor to detect "smash- and -grab" break-ins, a separate alarm sounder – in addition to the vehicle horn – to thwart thieves trying to disable the horn and a high-capacity, 60-ampere-hour battery that sounds the alarm longer.

2006 Ford GT

The original Ford GT was a pure race car built in the mid-1960s to take on Ferrari in the demanding 24-hour race at Le Mans. The Ford GT race car beat the world’s best in endurance racing, placing 1-2-3 at Le Mans in 1966. 2006 Ford GT is offered in a limited-edition Tungsten Grey, as part of Ford's celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Ford GT's legendary 1-2-3 sweep at LeMans.

2006 marks the 40th anniversary of that historic event, the start of Ford's remarkable four-year winning streak of the world’s premier endurance race. A special limited-edition exterior color, Tungsten Grey, is being offered on the 2006 Ford GT to commemorate that sterling victory.

The original Ford GT racers were engineering and design marvels demonstrating Ford’s dedication and perseverance. In a few short years, under the direction of Henry Ford II, the company built a program from scratch that reached the pinnacle of international motorsports competition – and stayed there for four racing seasons.

Perhaps the world’s most significant – and glamorous – motorsport contest, Le Mans in the early 1960s was showing signs of becoming a Ferrari showcase, because the Italians had become the leaders in a number of endurance classes and events. But the Ford GT race car changed Le Mans forever, and today it signifies a new era for Ford Motor Company.

Carroll Shelby led the Ford GT domination of LeMans in the Sixties, and served as an advisor during the development of the new, 2005 Ford GT supercar.
Design and Equipment

To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Ford's first win at Le Mans , the 2006 Ford GT will be offered in a limited-edition Tungsten Grey, which replaces Quick Silver on the Ford GT's color palette. A Quick Silver racing stripe can be added to the Tungsten Grey package

Tungsten Grey was developed for the 2004 North American International Auto Show Ford “Performance Trilogy” show cars – the Ford GT, the Shelby Cobra roadster concept and the new 2005 Mustang GT. Customer demand was so overwhelming that the color was added to the production palette.

“There’s good contrast between the colors,” says Camilo Pardo, chief designer of the Ford GT. “But it’s a discreet contrast. In Tungsten Grey, the Ford GT is really dressy, like a fine suit. It looks mature.”

Pardo notes that in the design studio, clay models are covered with “Dynoc” material that is a similar hue to Tungsten Grey. The color is specifically designed to enhance the vehicle design details for evaluation.

Unveiled at the 2002 North American International Auto Show, the GT40 concept became an instant sensation. And just 45 days after the vehicle was unveiled, Ford stunned the world again, officially announcing that a production version was in the works. Ford’s GT40 concept car was created to celebrate that great era in history and look forward to the great years to come.

Ford GT's advanced aerodynamic, manufacturing, and powertrain technologies showcase the engineering excellence of Ford Motor Company and Ford Special Vehicle team.

Although the new production car and the original race car both share the mystique of the Ford GT name, they do not share a single dimension. The new car is more than 18 inches longer and st and s nearly 4 inches taller. Its new lines draw upon and refine the best features of Ford GT history and express the car’s identity through modern proportion and surface development.

The Ford GT production car, like the concept, casts the familiar, sleek look of its namesake; yet every dimension, every curve and every line on the car is a unique reinterpretation of the original. The car features a long front overhang reminiscent of 1960s-era race cars. But its sweeping cowl, subtle accent lines and high-intensity-discharge headlamps strike a distinctly contemporary pose.

The front fenders curve over 18-inch wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires. In the tradition of original Ford GT racers, the doors cut into the roof. Prominent on the leading edge of the rear quarter panel are functional scoops that channel fresh air to the engine. The rear wheel wells, filled with 19-inch wheels and tires, define the rear of the car, while the accent line from the front cowl rejoins and finishes the car’s profile at the integrated “ducktail” spoiler.

The interior design incorporates the novel “ventilated seats” and instrument layout of the original car, with straightforward analog gauges and a large tachometer. Modern versions of the original car’s toggle switches operate key systems.

Looking in through the backlight, one finds the essence of the sports car in a 5.4-liter supercharged version of Ford’s MOD V-8 engine. The finishing touches are “Ford Blue” cam covers, each featuring an aluminum coil cover imprinted with the words “Powered by Ford.”
Powertrain and Chassis

The Ford GT team knew this road car would require a stiff structure, much like a race car. As such, they developed an all-aluminum space frame comprising extrusions, castings and several stampings. The hybrid aluminum space frame chassis is based on efficient use of 35 extrusions, seven complex castings, two semi-solid formed castings and various stamped aluminum panels.

The new Ford GT is intended for the road, unlike the original 1960s race cars that ultimately spawned a limited number of production road cars. However, the new car required unique race-like engineering solutions – like engineering out the aerodynamic “lift” inherent in the original car’s design – for a car that clocks in at more than 205 mph. The new Ford GT includes racing-inspired ground effects ducting under the rear fascia.

The Ford GT features many new and unique technologies, including super-plastic-formed aluminum body panels, roll-bonded floor panels, a friction-stir welded center tunnel, a capless fuel filler system, one-piece door panels and an aluminum engine cover with a one-piece carbon-fiber inner panel.

The chassis features unequal-length control arms and coil-over spring-damper units to allow for its low profile. Braking is h and led by four-piston aluminum Brembo monoblock calipers with cross-drilled and vented rotors at all four corners. When the rear canopy is opened, the rear suspension components and engine become the car’s focal point. Aluminum suspension components and 19-inch Goodyear tires – combined with the overwhelming presence of the V-8 engine – create a striking appearance and communicate the performance credentials of the Ford GT.

Under the super-plastic-formed aluminum clam shell resides the Ford GT's supercharged 5.4-liter, 550-hp V-8.

The Ford GT engine, based on the largest V-8 in Ford’s modular engine family, produces 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Both figures are comparable to those of the 7.0-liter engine that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966 and 1967.

The 5.4-liter powerplant is all-aluminum and fed by an Eaton screw-type supercharger. It features four-valve cylinder heads and forged components, including the crankshaft, H-beam connecting rods and aluminum pistons. Power is put to the road through a Ricardo six-speed manual transaxle featuring a helical limited-slip differential.

New Tungsten Grey paint scheme enhances the subtle detailing of the Ford GT design.
