BMW 1 Series Review

2009 BMW 1 Series Introduction

The 2009 BMW 1 series is a 2-door, 4-passenger luxury sports coupe, or luxury convertible car which is priced at MSRP: $29,400 – $40,150. This vehicle offers true value for money with perfect amalgamation of performance, handling and refinement. Even the most hard core car enthusiast would love to drive this car with pleasure. The motive of BMW behind designing the 1 series is to fill the gap between the convertible and coupe option.

2009 BMW 1 Series Body Style

The BMW 1 series includes 128i and 135i models which are styled in a manner that it looks attractive and elegant. The BMW 1 series is designed keeping in mind the 2002 BMW model and are spiritual successors. The new 2009 version has an advantage of new exterior color. BMW has changed the design for the new 1 series and created a boat deck with the rear part of the car protruding outside with a long hood and tall roofline.
The interiors are exemplary and would meet your expectation from the most coveted BMW styling. The interiors have been designed in accordance to the 3 series. The interiors are simple, upscale and tastefully styled and are crafted from premium materials. The switches are also stylish and conveniently placed to ease the driver.

2009 BMW 1 Series Features

The BMW 1 series offers similar features on both 128i and 135i models. The standard features that are included in this premium car are automatic climate controls which control the temperature cooling or heating as per the requirement. Heated steering wheel is also included in the 2009 model; it also includes input jacks for connecting ipods or other portables, rain sensing windshields wipers, a ten speaker audio system and the very efficient feature the cruise control. The coupe model features the power sunroof whereas the convertible model is equipped with power convertible top for those who are tired of pulling over every time the sun comes out.
There are many additional features that are available but at an extra cost. If you wish to buy a high tech vehicle you can choose the additional features such as the GPS navigation system, or the idrive system.
We recommend that those who wish to add a whole list of features to their car without worrying about the cost can have a look at the 3 series which comes loaded with additional features.

2009 BMW 1 Series Performance

The BMW 128i is powered by 230 horsepower engine while the 135i model boasts of a 306 horsepower and 3.0 liter inline -6. We found that BMW offers six speed manual transmission but you can choose optionally choose six-speed automatic with manual shift control. The new BMW takes an estimated 6.4 seconds for the 0-to-60-mph run equipped with the fluid six-speed manual in spite of its heavy weight Due to the high power engines the performance is good but it has a negative effect on the fuel economy.
EPA estimates that fuel economy for 2009 BMW 1 series 128i coupe model is 18mpg city and 28 highway and 21mpg combined while the 135i version returns 17mpg city and 25mpg on highways and 20 mpg combined. The brakes are powerful and hold well under extreme conditions and at the same time informs the following motorist with bright to brighter lights which would define heavy breaking. The tires are also well defined in both the model to offer fast run, the good suspension outfitted in this premium vehicle makes the ride comfortable without major jerks.

2009 BMW 1 Series Quality

This BMW provides quality that one would expect from the reputed automobile legend BMW. The BMW coupe or convertible provides ample space for adults in the front as well as rear row. The head room as well as the leg space is adequate to comfortably seat a adult but the elbow space allotted in the cabin could have been better .the room space inside the cabin is comfortable but cozy. The coupe also offers sufficient trunk space for storage and in case of storing extra goods the rear seats can be folded to make greater storage space. However in case of convertibles there is a fabric roof instead of a rigid roof which does not swallow too much trunk space. BMW is a known name for quality and they are known for not compromising on quality hence each and every material used in the interiors and exteriors are known to be of the best quality. We found that even though the material used for the convertible roof was of good quality it still made reasonable amount of wind noise. Overall we found that BMW has kept up to the benchmark laid by them even at the lower end of its model line up.

2009 BMW 1 Series Safety

We found that there were no crash test conducted to rate the safety features but BMW’s reputation for quality and safety is well defined. Even the standard feature laid by BMW in the base models display exemplary results at times when accidents cannot be prevented. They includes safety features such as front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags, anti lock brakes, stability and traction control which most vehicles include along with smart features such as anti skid ,tire pressure monitor, day time running lights . The only drawback that we noted was in the visibility at the time of backing; wide front headrest did come in the way to block visibility.
Overall the safety features are exemplary and work to the best of expectations.
Conclusion
We can conclude that BMW1 series has kept up the BMW brand name and makes head turns even amidst rare and expensive cars. The main highlights of this vehicle are powerful and equally efficient engines offer a smooth run, high quality interiors offer a luxurious ambience inside the cabin, the car is simple yet driver oriented with all its easily accessible features. The main drawbacks that were seen were it is not affordable by the common man, and the optional iDrive interface could have been added in the standard features.
