The i8’s potent plug-in hybrid drive system is capable of delivering a max. output of 349bhp and allows a range of up to 35 kilometres in electric mode. For pedal-to-the-metal routines a high-performance 3-cylinder petrol engine also adds to the propulsion while returning under 3l/100km. This four seater is designed to improve use of parking space via intelligent navigation systems and car-sharing schemes like DriveNow. The Parkatmyhouse feature allows individuals to use the internet/smartphone app to rent out their private parking spaces. The i8 is due to be launched in 2014 and will be built at BMW’s Leipzig plant in Germany, where the vehicle’s production will be CO2 neutral.
